Springtime in “Barry-Hasee”
Okay, so our beloved Capital City isn’t named after us; but it should be! Jokes aside, we’re sure you’ve noticed that the temperatures have thankfully begun to warm up. This is a sign that springtime is around the corner, and if there’s one thing we can attest to, it’s that springtime in Tallahassee is a time full of fun and excitement for you and the family. Being the friendly neighborhood HVAC service provider that we are, we thought it would be a good idea to share some of the events and goings-on around town that may interest you as the flowers bloom and the hot, sunny days return.
Considered by many to be Tallahassee’s biggest springtime event, the Downtown Marketplace is a fun and exciting seasonal event that takes place every Saturday morning from March through November at Park Avenue downtown. From 9am to 2pm, enjoy produce, organic goods and more from our great local farmers, in addition to one-of-a-kind arts and crafts, live music, poetry readings, book signings and more. Downtown Marketplace is also home to a plethora of themed events for all ages, including the “Wild in the Park” event, which showcases exotic animals, and the “Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest”, which awards prizes and awards to the city’s best chalk artists. No matter what you’re looking for, the Downtown Marketplace is the perfect place to spend a Saturday afternoon with the family during the spring. Plus, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the Downtown Marketplace, so it’s bound to be extra special!
If you fancy outdoor fun and live entertainment, it’s going to be tough to avoid visiting Cascades Park. After a long closure due to renovations, Cascades Park downtown is set to open better than ever March 14 and feature a host of activities, including a state-of-the-art amphitheater, an interactive play plaza, and a Discovery children’s play area, to name a few. Its anticipated that Cascades Park will be a huge draw in the downtown area, so you’ll definitely want to be part of the history that it makes as Tallahassee moves into the future.
No series of community events is complete without some education, and those in the learning mood will want to look into the Museum of Florida History during the spring. Tallahassee’s premier interactive learning destination plays host to a wealth of programs throughout the spring, such as the “2nd Saturday Family Program”, which is a learning series that takes place the second Saturday of every month and is aimed at providing fun and entertaining learning programs for the entire family. For example, if you’re a fan of archeology, then March 8th’s “Archeology in Action” presentation is sure to be of interest to you. Join the Florida Public Archeology Network’s Barbara Hines as she provides fun hands-on activities to help promote interest and education in archeology.
These are just a few of the events that take place in Tallahassee during springtime, and we wanted to take some time to talk about a few of them with our great fans. It is a great time to be in the capital city, and we encourage you to take part in the many community events taking place around town.
