Meet Jonathan Choquette, Service Technician

If you ask Jonathan Choquette to name the best part of his job, you’ll find his answer to be as refreshing as a blast of a/c on a hot day.

“It’s making the customer’s day,” says Jonathan, a service technician for Barineau Heating and Air Conditioning for the past three years. “Honestly, it might be 105 degrees in a customer’s house in the middle of summer, and they’re happy we’re there. I’ve had people feed me dinner because we might be there at eight or nine at night. Gestures like that go a long way in making you feel like you’re actually helping people.”

Jonathan gets plenty of opportunities to make someone’s day with a schedule that includes seven or eight service calls a day. On every call, he diagnoses the problem and does the repair. “Basically, I’m looking for solutions to fix the customer’s problem,” he says.

Most problems are typical, but some take longer to diagnose. In addition, air conditioning units are constantly evolving in the way they’re designed, so keeping up-to-date on the latest technology is a must. “Over my nine years doing air conditioning work, I’ve taken classes and gotten certifications, and I’ve also learned a lot from my peers out in the field,” he says. “Barineau does a good job in sending us to classes to learn all the new and updated versions of the technology.”

In his spare time, Jonathan, a Tallahassee native, enjoys staying outdoors, doing things like riding ATVs, camping and fishing. He got married in October 2018, and he and his wife are expecting their first child – a boy – in August.
